Communications Coordinator

Air Alliance Houston is a local non-profit organization that believes everyone has a right to breathe clean air and where you live should not determine your health. AAH works to research air quality challenges, educate residents about the impact of air quality on public health, and advocate for solutions to support healthy communities.

AAH is looking to hire a new Communications Coordinator to:

  • assist with the development and implementation of a communications plan
  • support our work as a partner in the One Breath Partnership to engage community ambassadors
  • develop relationships with media personnel and community organizations
  • coordinate media requests and follow-up, draft and disseminate press releases, and serve as AAH’s main media point of contact
  • edit AAH staff written materials (e.g. presentations), write and publish blogs and newsletter content
  • maintain our website and social media accounts, including content creation and curation
  • measure and report on the effectiveness of communications activities
  • work collaboratively with AAH staff and consultants

Professional Qualifications:

  • 3 or more years of communications experience
  • Ability to network, build, and maintain relationships
  • Experience with social media platforms and creating engaging content
  • Strong organizational abilities, attention to detail, and critical thinking skills
  • Ability to craft clear messages that explain air quality and public health issues to decision makers, the media and the public
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships and function effectively in a team environment
  • Ability to use software applications necessary to support these responsibilities (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe InDesign, WordPress, etc.)
  • Experience with graphic design is preferred but not required
  • A Bachelor’s degree is required and an advanced degree is preferred
  • Fluency in Spanish preferred but not required
