The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced a proposed action to reduce harmful emissions of sulfur dioxide (SO2) to improve visibility at some of Texas’ and Oklahoma’s most treasured parks and wilderness areas. The proposed plan will be open to a 60-day public comment period. EPA will hold a public hearing in Austin on January 13, 2015.
The Sierra Club and Air Alliance Houston are organizing free transportation from Houston to Austin for the January 13 hearing. We will meet at the Air Alliance Houston Office at 3914 Leeland Street at 10:00 AM. You may leave your car at our office for the day (please carpool if possible). A free shuttle will leave for Austin at 10:30 AM. Lunch will be provided on the shuttle.
In Austin, we will attend a Sierra Club rally at 3:30 PM, then the EPA hearing from 4:00-8:00 PM. Sierra Club will provide fact sheets and talking points for those wishing to speak at the hearing. Dinner will be provided at the hearing location. After the hearing, the bus will depart from Austin and return to Houston late that night.
