10th Anniversary of Earth Day Houston: A Growing Success in Making Houston a Greener, More Sustainable City

Guest article by Marie-Claire, Special Events Intern

The 10th anniversary of Earth Day Houston was a great success this year in 2015 considering the competing events and the dim weather forecast for the day. Attendees enjoyed free giveaways from our variety of vendors, live musical entertainment, and an interactive, educational experience to learn more about sustainable living here in Houston.

Interactive exhibits provided constant entertainment as Nissan Leaf Vehicles were available for free test-drives, food trucks provided sweet snacks, and hydration stations throughout the park kept attendees hydrated throughout the day.

Earth Day Houston and Waste Management contributed to a zero-waste goal, providing recycling centers and controlled waste initiatives throughout the festival. BikeHouston also contributed and provided a bike valet to reduce carbon footprints, and Center Point Energy provided free trees to attendees. Friends of Foam also provided a Styrofoam recycling center, overall contributing to lessening the environmental impact in Houston.

Overall, Earth Day Houston was a huge success thanks to all of our sponsors, supporters, and attendees. Presented by Air Alliance Houston, Earth Day Houston showcased all aspects of a greener earth.  Attendees enjoyed the educational green initiatives and many interactive events including: an eco-friendly fashion show, free children’s yoga classes, Aztec dancers, and interactive booths, all of which provided for an even more dynamic, educational, and successful event for Houstonians.
