We have a variety of partnerships with colleges and universities. Below are some of our current partnerships.

Barbara Jordan-Mickey Leland School of Public Affairs

The Barbara Jordan-Mickey Leland School of Public Affair at Texas Southern University has been a leader in the environmental justice movement in Houston. We regularly attend forums and conferences hosted by the School of Public Affairs. We are also honored to have Dr. Robert Bullard, the Dean of BJML and the “father of the environmental justice movement”,  serve on our Board of Directors.

Baylor College of Medicine

The Environmental Health Service at Baylor College of Medicine is the recipient of a grant from the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) that will provide more than $2 million over three years to test the effectiveness of a home-based environmental intervention program to improve asthma control and quality of life among African-American adults in the Houston area. Our Community Outreach Coordinator Brian Butler serves on the study’s Community Advisory Board, which consists of patients, patient advocates, civic leaders, and health professionals with expertise related to asthma, community health, and/or the African-American community.

Rice University

Rice University is one of several partners in an ongoing investigation of the metal recycling industry in Houston in which Air Alliance Houston participates. Air Alliance Houston is also a partner in the Houston GREEN Film Series, which is hosted at the Rice Media Center.

University of Houston, Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences

The Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences has been a partner of Air Alliance Houston for many years. Every year, members of the Department host an excellent booth at Earth Day Houston. The Department also helps us test air monitoring equipment, partnered with us in the development of the Houston Clean Air Network, and provided us with guidance on complex air quality issues.

University of Houston, The Honors College

The Honors College is one of the founding partners of the Houston Clean Air Network.

The University of Texas School of Public Health

Our current partnerships with the UT School of Public Health include a research fellowship and an investigation of the metal recycling industry in Houston. One of our board members, Dr. Thomas Stock, is a professor at the UT School of Public Health.

University of Texas School of Law

Our Executive Director, Adrian Shelley, is a proud alumnus of the University of Texas School of Law. Adrian’s first encounter with Air Alliance Houston was as an Environmental Law Clinic student in 2008, working on a Clean Air Act citizen suit against the Chevron Phillips Cedar Bayou Plant. Adrian also joined Air Alliance in 2010 as a legal fellow in the Joe R. and Theresa L Long Career Launch Program.
