SUMMARY:Public Health Watch San Jacinto Pollution Townhall - East Harris County Cancer Studies
DESCRIPTION:San Jacinto: What’s in the Air and Water\nTwo upcoming environmental town halls in East Harris County hosted by Public Health Watch  \nWe want to hear from you! \nPublic Health Watch will host two community town halls in early 2026 focused on environmental health reporting\, government accountability and community right-to-know issues in East Harris County. We hope you will join us for these community conversations about the most pressing environmental issues facing your community. \nThe first event\, held on February 19\, will focus on recent cancer studies conducted in East Harris County. Reporting by Public Health Watch has found glaring issues around government transparency in relation to these studies. We will be joined by experts on cancer data and public health who will speak about the need for state and local governments to inform residents about critical cancer trends in their neighborhoods. \nThe second event\, held on March 5\, will focus on new reporting from Public Health Watch examining the widespread health risks posed by chemical barges on the San Jacinto River. We will be joined by experts on the barge industry and air pollution to discuss how residents can work together to protect themselves and demand action from government regulators. \nLocal organizations will have resources on:\n✅ Air quality and air monitoring (how to read a monitor\, how to check to see if it’s safe outside) \n✅ Healthcare\, cancer prevention and detection and how to talk to your doctor \n✅ How to report a problem to the authorities \n✅ How to contact government agencies and your elected officials \nAll residents of East Harris County are encouraged to stop by and share their experiences and hopes for the future of their communities.  \nDon’t miss these events! ¡Se habla Español! \n\nOur partners \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nREGISTER BELOW\nPHW town halls are free to attend! Registration in advance is encouraged but not required.

SUMMARY:Defending the Foundation: A Community Dialogue on the Clean Air Act in Houston
DESCRIPTION:2026 has already brought back-to-back formal announcements from the EPA of various rule and regulatory weakenings\, elimination\, and roll-backs related to the Clean Air Act (CAA). Where does the Clean Air Act stand today and what can we do to protect it and us as one of the most polluted areas in the country? \nJoin Air Alliance Houston (AAH) staff and other experts for an overview of the proposed rollbacks to the Clean Air Act and related rules\, including the climate Endangerment Finding. Learn ways to take action and then share your concerns and ideas for regulatory advocacy going forward. \nWe will also share some recent WINS and examples of how community members are keeping their power even when EPA seems to be working against them. \nThis moment calls for inspiration. We are inspired by the words of the late Rev. Jesse Jackson who said: “When the foundation shakes\, everybody has to make an adjustment. You are the foundation. When you come together and organize\, you shake up the whole universe. Keep on shaking until you shake the dirt out\, so you can see a new heaven and a new earth.” \nOur foundation for protections against air pollution and its health harms is shaking. We have the power to make it right.
