Join us Wednesday, May 26th from 6:30 – 7:30 pm for “Poetry Breeze.”  Our first collaboration with Writers in the Schools – Houston

AAH Board member Chanler Langham will emcee this event which will include: 

  • Emanuelee “Outspoken” Bean, Houston’s newest Poet Laureate! Bean is a self-proclaimed “H-Town military brat,” who began his journey into the world of spoken word in 2005 at Prairie View A&M and now serves as Community Connector for Writers in the Schools – Houston.
  • High school members of Meta-Four Houston: the face of the youth poetry slam scene. These six young women, coached by Bean, will be performing, after representing Houston at the international Brave New Voices Festival.

  • Ebony Stewart, one of the most decorated poets in Texas, Stewart is an international touring poet and performance artist, born and raised in Baytown. Her work speaks to “encourage dialogue and inspire folks in marginalized communities.” Her words and performance will be shared during this event in a short excerpt from the film “In the Air,” about environmental justice issues in Baytown, produced and directed by Austin filmmaker John Fiege.
