Media Advisory: New Report Reveals Top Air Polluters and Contributors to Climate Change in Houston/Harris County

Media members are invited to a news conference on July 30 at 9:30 AM at Unidad SkatePark, Baytown, where Air Alliance Houston, the Harris County Attorney, and community partners will unveil details of the “Dirty Dozen,” a new report highlighting the top twelve industrial air polluters in the Houston region.

The report is based on a comprehensive analysis of multiple publicly available data sources from the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). It also incorporates data from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) to ensure the local reliability and accuracy of the findings. This analysis revealed twelve industrial facilities that contribute the most emissions in Harris County. This includes carbon emissions, the heat-trapping gasses that cause climate change and contribute to extreme weather events, such as the recent Derecho and Hurricane Beryl.

Renowned as the petrochemical capital of the world, Houston faces significant environmental challenges due to industrial emissions. These emissions collectively contribute to the overall burden of air pollution and related health problems in predominantly Hispanic, African American, and low-income neighborhoods.
