Texas Environmental Justice Conference at Thurgood Marshall School of Law

As part of the annual Texas Public Interest Environmental Law Conference, TSU’s Thurgood Marshall School of Law will host an Environmental Justice conference on October 6, free and open to the public. Topics and speakers include:

  • The role of environmental lawyers in securing a just climate transition, Moderator: Naadiya Hutchinson, Taproot Earth; Panel: Noorulanne Jan, Earthjustice; Ana Laurel, Texas Rio Grande Legal Aid; and Chase Porter, Lone Star Legal Aid
  • Environmental justice at the Harris County Attorney’s office, Sarah Jane Utley, Harris County Attorney’s office
  • Supplemental Environmental Projects: Benefitting communities through consent decrees, Samuel Tates, US Environmental Protection Agency, Region 6
  • General counsel: Working with communities from a place of power building and accompaniment, Erin Mcclarty, Erin Mcclarty PLLC
  • From the frontlines to the White House: Update from WHEJAC members, Susana Almanza, Juan Parras, and Dr. Robert Bullard, members of the White House Environmental Justice Advisory Council; moderated by Steph Valdez, community organizer
