Have you heard of the planned rail merger? An impending acquisition of Kansas City Southern by Canada Pacific will bring 8 more trains per day through Houston.
If you live in one of the historically underserved communities that see the impact of trains (long idling of commercial trucks and cars, unsafe crossing sections, impact to emergency services and more) you know what we’re talking about. We should not let yet another company harm the health of our communities.
We want to make sure that we get full public participation, but we understand that your burnout is real.
Here are actions you can take depending on your time and energy:
- If you have the capacity to write comments, we wholeheartedly encourage you to do so HERE.
- If you need help crafting your comments or have questions, come and meet our Transportation Justice Coordinator Melissa Beeler at our Coffee and Change event, Wednesday, October 12 from 4 PM – 6 PM at Local Group Brewing. We’ll have coffee and snacks!
- If you can do neither of the above, please fill out this 3-question survey that we’ve created with Harris County Pct 1 policy advisor Zoe Middleton to collect input from the public. On October 13, we will combine the responses from the survey and send them out to the federal decision-makers as a testimony from the public. TAKE THE SURVEY.
Please share this information with your network of community, and come and meet us at Local Group Brewing so that we can help lift up your voice and your opinions on this rail merger.
