On Wednesday, August 19th, Air Alliance Houston, LINK Houston, and the Kinder Institute for Urban Research at Rice University hosted an online webinar titled: “Health & Highways: Impacts of Transportation Infrastructure on Communities.” This event was moderated by Dr. Denae King of Texas Southern University and included panelists Beth Alden (Executive Director, Hillsborough, Florida, Metropolitan Planning Organization), Dennis Grzezinski (Environmental Lawyer, Law Office of Dennis M. Grzezinski), Dr. Laura Solitare (Associate Professor of Urban Planning and Environmental Policy, Barbara Jordan-Mickey Leland School of Public Affairs, Texas Southern University), and Joetta Stevenson (President, 5th Ward Superneighborhood). Speakers discussed how transportation infrastructure projects, like the proposed I-45 expansion, impact the health and quality of life of surrounding communities and how to mitigate the harmful effects.
