This past February, Starbucks announced that 100% of their plastic cups would be recycled. While this sounds like it would make a huge difference in terms of waste reduction, a report by Beyond Plastics seems to show the opposite.
According to the Beyond Plastics report, 90% of the Starbucks cups and straws tracked were either landfilled or moved to waste transfer stations. In fact, not one cup or straw was moved to the kind of facility needed to recycle them.
With around 8 million plastic cups and straws being used by Starbucks daily, this presents a serious problem. For more information, read the full report here and join us in a short protest/media conference to demand answers and hold Starbucks accountable to better waste reduction practices.

Protesta contra Starbucks: Exijamos responsabilidad a las empresas por los residuos plásticos
El pasado mes de febrero, Starbucks anunció que el 100 % de sus vasos de plástico serían reciclados. Aunque esto parece sugerir un gran avance en la reducción de residuos, un informe de la organización Beyond Plastics indica lo contrario.
Según dicho informe, el 90 % de los vasos y pajitas (popotes) de Starbucks rastreados terminaron en vertederos o en estaciones de transferencia de residuos. De hecho, ni un solo vaso o pajita llegó a las instalaciones adecuadas para su reciclaje.
Dado que Starbucks utiliza alrededor de 8 millones de vasos y pajitas de plástico al día, nos enfrentamos a un problema grave.
